Life at 221 and Magnolia

I start my third week at store #221 and my fourth week at Magnolia, both have been great thus far. Although I have crazy hours and there is no sense of routine, the paychecks are nice. I greatly enjoy my coworkers, they have been some of the most welcoming people I have ever met. Always asking me if I am getting the hang of things and if I need anything to never hesitate to ask. The praise and kindness that everyone gives each other is overwhelming at times. It is so wonderful to see people with that much appreciation for each other.

Magnolia has been great, as well. I have the same feeling for this place as I do #221, I feel like I've lived here longer than I have. It's nice only being 4-5 miles from work. It's a quaint neighborhood, quiet, which I like. I will say I cannot wait until school is out because then there wont be so many school buses that go by every morning. Does anyone else realize how loud those things are?

When I was 10 I never thought the day would come when I would start my life back in Grand Rapids. It's finally come and I couldn't be happier. I do miss my family, because as a frequent reader would know, I am a family person. I try to talk to my mom as much as I can, but also knowing that when I talk to her I just get sad because she isn't here with me. Along with my mom, I do miss my dad and brother and Ellie just the same.

I cannot wait to see what this summer brings. I hope that there is adventures and lessons, trials and tribulations, as well as money being made.

I'm living in a booming city, there are photographs to be taken and one of these days I will take them. Ha, haven't we all heard me say that before.

One Step Forward, a GIANT Push Back

Sometimes I just want to scream at the top of my lungs. WHY CAN'T YOU JUST BE HAPPY FOR ME? I don't get it. I finally have some big news and you proceed to tare me down like a piece of unwanted paper.

So rewinding, I got big news. I received a phone call yesterday about someone wanting to interview me! Awesome, right? That's not the best news either. I've already had one interview and now this one and I have a pending interview! If getting a job is hard, getting an interview must be easy. I don't know. I have to look on the bright side, because at least they are interested in interviewing me right? One step at a time!

You know how when you get really good news there is one person that comes to mind that you want to tell? Well yeah that happened to me. I called them and told them and their response? "Oh good for you." After that, things went down hill. I apparently, after getting this interview at a second job, wasn't taking everything into consideration. Well, excuse me for making a pros and cons list of each of the jobs and trying to think of not just how much I am going to be making, but which one I will learn from the most. Let's just say, that it didn't sound like they were happy for me at all.

I know making money is a good thing, but it shouldn't be number one. Not to say that it shouldn't be a big pull, but there are other things to consider. Plus this is a summer job, I'm not going to be making millions. I figure I have one year left to have a "fun" summer job. Anyone of these jobs, if I get an offer that is, could be amazing and an awesome experience.

I don't understand why, when someone comes to you with good news we can't just congratulate them and be happy. Don't just turn the tables and go all crazy on them.

All I want right now is for you to be happy for me.

Thanks for letting me rant, but now that I am riled up work should be fun.

It's just another day

4th of July is my favorite and yet it is my least favorite holiday. I love watching all the families with little kids running around giving out screams and laughter. Seeing all the couples take morning walks around town before Copper Harbor sets itself up for the big festivities to come. The little kids who get such a delight running to get candy that is tossed from firetrucks, police cars and the various floats that local businesses create. Hearing about who won the three legged race and the sack race puts a smile on my face. These people love spending the fourth of July in Michigan's one and only Copper Harbor.

Why do I call it my least favorite holiday, you might ask? I do not get to partake in these festivities that take place. I, unlike all the tourist and people on vacation, have to work on the fourth. Now I do it every year so there is really no place for me to complain. If I didn't want to do it I would request for it off. That's funny though, requesting it off, my parents own the restaurant that I work at so there is no requesting it off. I would have to work whether I wanted to or not. That's the thing about working for family, you have to when then they want you to.  -I wrote this while I was working-

Working on the fourth really puts a damper on the whole celebration. -especially when you work a 12+ hour day-  So for the most part the fourth of July is just another day for me. I love love love watching the fireworks that are shot over the harbor from porters island. For a town of only 80-100 year around residence we have a pretty awesome fireworks display. Do not underestimate a holiday in a small town.

This years fourth of July was unlike any other. Normally we should be any where close to 200 breakfast and this year we only did 111. Don't get me wrong it was still good just no as bust as we thought we would be.

What am I doing?

I am working as a hostess from 8 am until 8 pm woo hoo for a 12 hour shift!!! I also help work the door on the fourth so no one under 21 came in! Yay! I was also taught some Serbian by some of the Serbians that were working with me on the fourth.

Memorial Day Weekend

As I am sitting drinking my tea, I am overwhelmed at how I hope this summer will out do last summer in so many ways.  The fact that Dunja and Slavko, both from Serbia are coming back for a third year as well as Christina from Jamaica is back for a second year, I am extremely excited.  Now what do I mean by "back", well if I haven't told you my parents own a resort in a "destination" town in Michigan.  Since the town is in a rural part of Michigan it is hard to get employees to work, so my parents have resorted to getting students from other countries.

This year we have seven Serbians and one Jamaican. I hope that things go well and we all get along.  The past few years we have had great groups of people.  I am trying not to get too excited about it because I do not want to be disappointed.  I am taking every day as it comes.

For this holiday weekend, my town filled up and filled up fast.  I have come to the realization that without the mountain biking trails that this town would lose about 50% of its business.  I kid you not this town runs on the mountain bikers.  In the restaurant today we weren't as busy as we were last year.  Last year we did 111 breakfast and today we only did 63.  It seemed busy at the time but breakfast is from 7:30-11:30 on most days so in all reality we weren't that busy.  Thinking back on it I believe it just all came at one time.

I needed to write a little something I have just had a lot on my mind. I hope you are all having a wonderful weekend, while most of you have the day off tomorrow I will be getting up early to open the restaurant at 6:30 so its a goodnight and goodbye for now! :)

A little something before you leave!

May Blog Challenge Day 6

May Blog Challenge Day 6: If you couldn't answer with your job, how would you answer the question, 'what do you do'?

What in the world do I do? Other than saying I am a full-time student. I study. I learn. I teach. I live and I love. I express myself in laughter and sometimes even in anger. I capture moments in my mind and through technology that I think are those that people never think of. I create unlimited opportunities for myself.

Backwards hat reminds me of the 90's

This is what I think I do. :)

Everyone Needs A Friend

I have been down in the dumps lately. So deep that I though that it was the END! [I want to add a quick note I am not the one to ask for sympathy or look for it, I just needed to get this out] Obviously it wasn't, but at that time I didn't know. All I wanted to do was cut off every link I had to every bit of the world. I just wanted to stay in my room [weirdly is where I am now] and not come out. This was all happening on the week of the 4th. So yes, I really didn't enjoy the 4th as much as I tried to. Anyways, I spent the nights crying until I fell asleep, waking up to puffy eyes and droopy faces. I had to pull myself together and go to work. That didn't work all the time, 4/6 times I work that week I cried at one time or another. My customers were very amazing telling me that if I needed a minutes they didn't mind me stepping out and just getting myself together.

One very very sweet lady gave me a hug and said, "I don't know who you are or what you are going through, but you are strong for doing what your doing. Not many people can cry in front of others". Then her daughter (or what I believe was her daughter) said to me, "It's okay to cry, don't be ashamed, it means you care". I was absolutely stunned at what these two strangers told me. There are people out there who do care about others they don't even know.

I remember one night my mom came into my room and asked me if I had any friends that wanted to be bartenders. I looked at her and said, "mom I have no friends". She looked at me right in the eyes "Yes you do". Well I wont continue on that conversation, but I still don't know about this topic. I will say I know once I do back to school that I will have friends. Heck, most of them that I meet last year are living in the same hall as me so I will see them EVERY day! :) This summer... where are they? WHERE ARE YOU!?!

I've gotten to think well is this what happens when you grow up? You lose your friends? All you have is yourself and your dog? [I say dog because Ellie never leaves me alone] I don't know. I feel lost confused and unknowing of that topic. What am I to do?

You may be asking yourself why does she feel as if she has no friends? Well here it goes. I haven't seen a single one of my friends all summer! I saw them at graduation [in MAY, might I add] and that's all. Granted we all have jobs in the summer and I understand that they are busy, but when I see them posting things on the wonderful, but horrible Facebook about doing thing together it hurts that I wasn't even thought of to be invited. I understand I live about 30 miles away from the closest one, but I AM WILLING TO MAKE THE DRIVE!

EVERYONE NEEDS A FRIEND!!

I have a friend, her name is Sammie. I love her so so much! She also lives 584.3 [10 hours 18 minutes(DRIVING TIME)] miles away from me. :( [SAD FACE] We became so close at school and now that it's summer I miss seeing her every day, but even though the days since I last saw her is get bigger I only have 40 more days until I can see her beautiful face again! :D This girl is going to be an RA at school but her hall is only across the Quad which isn't that far at all!

Sammie is the best of friends that I could ever ask for! When ever I am having a bad day she is the one I go to, even if it's just going through pictures or talking to her on Facebook, looking through conversations on Twitter. :) I love this girl!

This is Sammie and I at Karaoke night in my Hall.
Everyone needs to have a friend like Sammie. When I realized I can't live the rest of my summer like this I needed to talk to Sammie. I called her and even just a 10 minute talk to her was everything I needed to cheer up.

UPDATE

Okay so I am done with my "poor me" talk. This was an amazing weekend! Well I posted on Thursday about my brother's 21st birthday. It was... memory making. I had two of my Aunts up from back HOME. Also my sister Jen and my cousin Sammy [different Sammy] came up here.

Work was CRAZY! Or at least today. I was running my butt of all day, but in the end it was worth it. We have found out that Dunja and I work so well together. We got some many compliments. [Sorry I just had to say that]. I love working with her.

Only 40 more days until I go back to school and I am super excited!! Also sadden by the fact because I do like being home with my parents, but a girl has to move on soon or later.

I am also thinking on making some changes to my Blog. We'll have to see if I can do it. Sorry about making so many changes, but when I learn more and more about what I can do, I change things here and there.
